I'm so excited to be in the point of pre-production when I get to assemble a look-book... it means spending too much time cutting and pasting and collecting images from all over I can use as source materials for myself and my crew members.
Today I spent some time looking at Elinor Carruci's site, and am floored by her incredible sense of lighting and composition.... check it out!

- Miranda Beverly-Whittemore is a writer. Kai Beverly-Whittemore is a filmmaker. They have been sisters since, well, Kai was born and Miranda was seven. Both girls benefitted enormously from the benign neglect of academic parents. Young Miranda wrote novellas; young Kai built tiny robots and furry creatures. They documented Shakespeare plays with their PXL vision camera. They were photographed by family friends Jock Sturges and Mona Kuhn. By the time Kai was in college, Miranda published her first novel, "The Effects of Light" (Warner Books 2005), which was loosely based on their experiences growing up being photographed. Meanwhile, Kai began working on her first feature-length documentary, "Body of Work", which examines those same experiences with a different eye. In 2007, Miranda published her second novel, "Set Me Free" (Warner Books). Now that Miranda and Kai are "grown-ups" they seek to do "grown-up" things. Like blogging about being working artists, art in America, and how sometimes Art and America don't seem to go together all that well.
